March 2007 | Risk SummaryTunisia remains one of the most closed societies in the region, and as such without an independent media it is difficult to gauge public opinion. Nevertheless, despite reports of a major threat from the renamed Algerian militants, al-Qaeda Maghreb (formerly known as GSPC), and claims that Tunisia is now a base for the group, we believe that risks to political stability remain unchanged. Indeed, there is potentially a higher risk of terrorist attacks in the future, given recent attempts, but these look set to remain isolated incidents and hence should not affect policymaking
