Reports that the US is to attend a conference on Iraqi matters with Iran and Syria are positive, but this alone does not herald an immediate breakthrough in terms of the nuclear saga. Both Washington and Tehran were open to discussions on Iraq in 2006, though relations, somewhat abruptly, significantly deteriorated towards the end of the year.
