March 2007 | Risk SummaryThe UN newswire IRIN reports of the arrest of 20 Anglophone secessionist members - of the Southern Cameroon National Council (SCNC) - at the start of the year, under the pretext that they were not allowed to hold a meeting. Anglophones constitute some 20% of Cameroon's population, and feelings of marginalisation still run high. Clampdown on opposition is not a new phenomenon, and reflects the fact that Cameroon still has a relatively forceful mode of governance.
