Inflation To Remain High

Qatari inflation came in at 11.84% in 2006 according to latest figures released by the Central Bank of Qatar, up from 8.77% y-o-y in 2005. This was on the back of a doubling of food, beverage and tobacco prices (from 3.17% in 2005 to 7.35% in 2006), a 12.48% jump in clothing following a -2.86% fall in 2005, a 13.58% rise in miscellaneous goods and services (up from 4.17% in 2005) and continued climb in rent, fuel and energy prices which rose by 25.94% (slightly lower than 26.22% seen in 2004).
