The son of the leader, Colonel Muammar Qadhafi has been praised by powers such as the US for his moderate stance on the case of the Bulgarian nurses convicted in Libya, promising that they will not be executed and trying to find a mutually acceptable solution. On the home front, he was the official designated to announce large rises in public sector salaries - 110% for civil servants and 275% for oil sector workers - and social welfare allowances
