April 2007 | Ratings UpdateAs the security situation in Zimbabwe worsens, international media attention has begun to focus on the response from neighbouring African countries. While the current response is by no means sufficient to bring any significant pressure on President Robert Mugabe, there are discernible signs that Zimbabwe's neighbours are beginning to feel that the current policy of 'quiet diplomacy' is not particularly effective, and that a tougher approach might needed. This is particularly the case with respect to Zambian policy, and President Levy Mwanawasa has made by far the strongest comments from an African nation, stating that 'quiet diplomacy has failed'.
