Rating Unchanged Despite Blasts
April 2007 | Economic AnalysisAlgeria retains its position as the most creditworthy sovereign in the Middle East and Africa region with a rating of A1 despite the recent bout of serious violence that has hit the country. Terrorist incidents in Morocco and Tunisia have sparked fears of the militant group al-Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb's regional reach and the rising terrorist threat in the region, but we maintain our view that the risks to political stability for now are contained (see January 2007, Political Risk Analysis - A Terrorist Threat In The Sahara?).
