April 2007 | Risk SummaryOur new political risk ratings encapsulate perfectly our view on Egypt: that in the short term the government''s crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) puts it in a strong position (with a relatively high score of 72.5), but in the long term, the resentment and democratic deficit will reduce stability (giving it a lower score of 67.4). Looking slightly more closely, Egypt scores very highly in the policy-making process, since the government''s tight control allows it to make and implement decisions more efficiently than a more democratic country, in which the government would come up against (and be hindered by)
