While the battle axes have been buried, the tension between the ruling MPLA and the main opposition party UNITA is still tangible. Indeed, while we deem the probability of a return to violence relatively low, a failure to make headway on the election preparations - as illustrated by reports of still poor voter registration - could prove a source of instability. And, dissatisfaction among the predominantly poor populace about the weak trickle down effect of the country's oil-induced economic expansion, evidenced in dilating income inequalities, makes for political tinder.
