The May 28 meeting between Iran and the US to discuss Iraq was a momentous moment considering that the two sides have not had a formally acknowledged face-to-face meeting since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Accusations and counter accusations continue and so do the hawkish rhetoric and sensationalist headlines regarding the possibility of a military confrontation. Still, we maintain our long held view that with both administrations under pressure on the domestic and international arenas, we are seeing a more conciliatory turn in relations between Washington and Tehran.
