S-T Positive Outlook Dented By Long-term Concerns
May 2007 | Political Risk AnalysisDespite concerns regarding a growing terrorist threat in Tunisian and the Maghreb generally, we remain sanguine with regards to ongoing political stability in the country. Armed clashes in late December and early July, coupled with militant attacks in Morocco and Algeria have raised fears that Tunisia is becoming a base for regional terrorist networks. The Tunisian authorities have been keen to downplay such incidents however, denying allegations of human rights abuses and mass waves of arrests subsequently. Such incidents are certainly rare in the North African country, though the government's prickliness regarding the wearing of the headscarf in public spaces
