October 2007 | Risk Summary

The turmoil in the Lebanese political system has been factored into our ratings, and recent developments have not led us to change the country's already low score. However, we remain very concerned about stability, and in particular the assassination of MP Antoine Ghanem in September. This has entrenched divisions between the government and the opposition, reducing the chances of a successful compromise over the presidential polls and a return to relative normality. A successful election would lead us to revise up our ratings, but such a prospect is far from certain at the moment.
