October 2007 | Ratings UpdateIn September Mauritius was named the best governed country in Africa by the Ibrahim Index of African Governance. The index took into account categories such as 'sustainable economic opportunity,' 'rule of law, transparency and corruption,' and 'participation and human rights.' Mauritius ranked highest on the overall index but also scored in the top two in every sub-category but 'safety and security,' where it tied for second.
