Sultan Qaboos will press on with his personal political reforms, and will appoint more women members to the Majlis al-Dawla, after female candidates failed to win any seats in the 27 October Majlis al-Shura elections. But the main worry is over the lack of a succession candidate. There are no signs of a mechanism to decide on the successor to Qaboos, as Saudi Arabia has managed with its newly formed allegiance committee. This provides the main undercurrent of political risk
