January 2008 | Risk SummaryRecent comments from Prime Minister Ali Mohammed Majawar indicate that Yemen is hoping to join the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) by 2015. Majawar said that Yemen is following the two five-year plans which were proposed initially by the GCC secretariat back in 2005 in order to meet this deadline. The GCC is tentatively supporting Yemen's proposed accession, donating US$2.7bn at the last donor's conference to help it meet the accession criteria.
