February 2008 | Ratings UpdateOur ratings remain constrained by the dire political situation, with the March 14 government unable to act thanks to the various strands of opposition: a parliamentary boycott, a large-scale public sit-in protest in central Beirut, additional demonstrations, and occasional acts of violence as well. Divisions are entrenched, and we see no easy way out of this situation. However, one development which could strengthen the government, and which we have highlighted before, would be a rift between Hizbullah and a large number of Christian voters, as represented by Michel Aoun's Free Patriotic Movement.
