February 2008 | Ratings UpdateAt the time of writing, interior ministers from across the Arab world were convening in Tunis for their annual meeting. This year, terrorism is top of the agenda, with ministers debating ways to disrupt the financing of terrorist networks and to improve border controls. The meeting is also expected to examine joint programmes to fight drug smuggling and organised crime. Tunisia is hoping that its neighbours in North Africa and the Middle East can emulate its strong record in tackling Islamist extremist groups; in his opening speech, Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali called for increased cooperation between police
