The difficulties of maintaining the international relations it relies upon and placating a restive anti-US and anti-Israeli population continue to pose a serious risk to stability in Egypt. The decision to allow Palestinians from Gaza into Egypt to buy supplies clearly shows the government is prioritising the latter at the moment, but the move will not come without a price. Not only did it undermine the (albeit contentious) Israeli policy of dealing with the Hamas-led Gaza Strip through economic isolation, but it has also directly linked the Egyptian move with the suicide bombing in Dimona.
