Uganda's government has extended a January 31 deadline for Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels to sign a peace deal. Talks are due to resume on February 6. This is a positive development, since it shows the authorities are willing to compromise in order to avoid military conflict. The Ugandan government had previously warned the LRA that if the peace deal was not signed by the end of the month, a return to war may occur; military chiefs from Uganda and the DRC had been plotting against the LRA.
