Peace To Remain Elusive
February 2008 | Political Risk AnalysisDespite the signing of a peace agreement on January 23 between the government of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and several rebel groups of the Kivu province, we maintain our core scenario that peace will remain elusive to the DRC's eastern province over the medium term. The very fact that renewed fighting broke out before the ink was even dry demonstrated the fragility of the peace deal and the complexity of the task ahead of enforcing a ceasefire across the vast region.
