Pressure For Incursion Mounting
October 2007 | Political Risk AnalysisThe Turkish government is coming under increasing public pressure to launch a military operation into Iraq's northern region, from which an estimated 3,000 Kurdish separatist rebels have been staging cross-border attacks on Turkish strategic assets in recent months. Prospects of an incursion into northern Iraq have been growing following last week's parliamentary motion to approve a military operation into the Kurdish controlled region in Iraq, and have received a boost on Sunday October 21, following the largest insurgent attack on Turkey in at least a decade, leaving 17 Turkish soldiers dead.
