Election Results Reinforce S-T Stability

Our short-term political risk rating remains unchanged following election results in Jordan where the opposition party, the Islamic Action Front (IAF), suffered heavy losses in a vote it said was marred by fraud. The IAF fielded candidates for a fifth of seats, but only managed to win six of them, a loss of ten seats from their previous haul of 16 in June 2003. According to unofficial figures independents of various affiliations won 98 seats and the remaining six seats were allocated to women by a special election council.
