Ongoing Ructions With PKK
January 2008 | Ratings UpdateThe Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) has been accused by Turkish authorities of detonating a bomb on January 3, in the mainly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir. The death toll currently stands at five, with a further 110 injured, and with potential for the body count to swell further. The attack follows Turkey's military deployment in northern Iraq, where Turkish troops are engaging with the PKK. With conflict at the border escalating, the potential for further terrorist attacks is now a heightened concern, which could prove to be further destabilising for the region.
