So Far So Good?
November 2007 | Ratings UpdateWith the help of a strong tailwind in the form of world commodity prices, Zambia's prospects have much improved. On the governance side, corruption is now being taken seriously and budgetary management has been tightened. But a glaring weakness persists in the form of a polity that is fractured and often paralysed with internal strife. The government is trying to modernise the political system through constitutional reforms, but the process is in danger of being delayed by a lack of consensus and opposition posturing. Ordinary voters are losing faith in formal politics, and there are already signs that those preaching
