September 2007 | Political Risk AlertInternational pressure is building to bring the long-running tensions in Sudan's western Darfur region to an end. The country remains beset by unrest, and two of the three peace deals forged between Khartoum and regional rebel groups in recent years, still look to be on very shaky ground. The trouble-ridden western region of Darfur has seen a surge in unrest recently: on August 28, a Darfur rebel group was reported to have seized control of a Sudanese army base in neighbouring Kordofan province.
