September 2007 | Ratings UpdateSudan has delayed until February a national census seen as crucial to the success of democratic elections and a vote on secession for the oil-rich south, according to the United Nations. The UN cited delays in funding as the reason for the postponement. The coalition Government of National Unity (GONU) came to the rescue, pledging to provide its share of the US$54.2mn needed; the international community agreed to give additional funds.
