September 2007 | Ratings UpdateThe international human rights group, Human Rights Watch, has accused President Yoweri Museveni's government of promoting 'state homophobia' in Uganda and urged the repeal of a colonial-era law against sodomy. This added to ongoing fierce social debate in the nation which flared up on August 11 when an article about the number of gay organisations and their registered followers was published in the newspaper Daily Monitor; some Christian churches subsequently organised a demonstration against homosexuality.
