Somali opposition groups have united under a new umbrella alliance, with the aim of overthrowing the incumbent Transitional Federal Government (TFG). The formation of the Alliance for the Liberation of Somalia was announced on 12 September, following a conference of opposition leaders in neighbouring Eritrea. The Alliance is comprised of various opposition groups, based along Somali clan lines.
