September 2007 | Ratings UpdateThere was another development in the border dispute between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo as six civilians were killed in an exchange of gunfire on Lake Albert in September. Although the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) has said that it was actually two soldiers that were killed, the United Nations has blamed the civilian deaths on the UDPF. There has been growing tension ever since the discovery of oil beneath the lake which borders both countries, and a recent meeting between Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and his Congolese counterpart Joseph Kabila has done little to diffuse the situation.
