October 2007 | Ratings UpdateThe Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) recently expressed doubts over the prospects for free and fair elections and thinks that the next Presidential poll, expected in December, will be the true test of democracy in the east African country. ECK Chairman Samuel Kivuiti, said that Kenya's politics is marred by tribalism, violence and corruption, and that such weaknesses could derail the country's progress towards democracy. Indeed political tension heightened last month when three opposition politicians - who are supporters of the President Mwai Kibacki's main rival Raila Odinga - were injured by attackers when they arrived uninvited at a fundraiser
