Macroeconomic Forecast Uganda

October 2007 | Macroeconomic Forecasts

Lending rates in Uganda are declining but remain very high. In 2004 the lending rate topped 20%, but has steadily fallen since. We forecast this trend to continue as the economy grows, projecting a drop to 14.0% by the end of 2008 from 16.0% at the end of 2007. Such high lending rates have done their part to lower inflation and strengthen the shilling, and we forecast these trends to continue while the lending rate remains high.
