May 2007 | Ratings UpdateRule of law remains a major constraint on political stability in Cameroon. Although the re-election of Paul Biya as president in 2005 was a good result for stability, there is still much to be done in ensuring domestic resentment is played out through democratic channels, and not violence. Local media are reporting a rising crime wave, and Biya pledged to tackle urban crime and highway robbery in his address to the nation at the start of the year.
