May 2007 | Ratings UpdateThere are no glaring political risks as Ghana continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary of independence from Britain and we expect the democratic consolidation to remain firmly on track. But political noise is likely to become increasingly vociferous ahead of next year's general election. The track-record of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PDP) will no doubt come under intense scrutiny, and intra-party jousting over key positions (President John Kufuor will step down) is to be expected. The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) late last year elected party leader John Atta Mills as their candidate for the as their candidate for the presidential race.
