Gem Ban Lifted
July 2007 | Market AlertSignalling Liberia's gradual return from years of mayhem and economic stagnation, the government has removed the six-year-old moratorium on the mining, sale and exports of diamonds. As of today (July 30), it will be possible for Liberians to apply for mining, selling and broker licenses. This move comes on the heels of the decision of the UN to lift sanctions on the industry in April, in view of a firming up of the country's mining regulation.
