August 2007 | Risk SummaryThe opposition's challenging of the results of the April elections in the courts has hitherto not yielded any result. As we go to print the Court of Appeal has just delayed by two weeks a hearing of the opposition's arguments. Both of the two main opposition party leaders, Muhammadu Buhari (ANPP) and Atiku Abubakar (AC), filed petitions back in May but have not been able to get their cases heard due to legal technicalities. Although hearings will most probably materialise at some point, the opposition's hopes of an annulment of the election results are bound to be frustrated.
