UNITA Seeking Coalition

The main opposition party in Angola, the National Unity for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), is reportedly seeking to form a coalition with other parties ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 5-6, 2008. UNITA President, Isaias Samakuva said that the party 'is now in the process of concluding an agreement with some parties' in an interview with Africa Monitor. This move should strengthen UNITA's position for the election, but as Samakuva acknowledged, the party has limited financial capacity.
