Au Revoir?
March 2008 | Ratings UpdateGabon's most important ally, France, has announced plans to renegotiate and overhaul its historical relationships with African countries. While French President Nicolas Sarkozy has stated he does not mean to say 'that the existing agreements should necessarily be scrapped', an official at the Defence Minister's office stated 'we're starting again from scratch. We're putting everything on the table.' Allegedly, Sarkozy desires to end his country's support for long-serving African leaders with questionable democratic credentials. Unfortunately for Gabon, President Omar Bongo, as the longest serving head of state in the world, has a good chance of being viewed as just such
