We forecast that the current account deficit will increase further to 11.2% of GDP in 2008, up from an estimated 8.1% in 2007. While high commodity prices will buoy Congolese export revenues, we believe that rising demand for capital goods (especially in the mining sector), as well as a growing import bill for food, will weigh on the current account deficit over the course of 2008.
