Macroeconomic Forecast Tanzania

March 2008 | Macroeconomic Forecasts

BMI View: Headline inflation in January rose again to 8.6% y-o-y, from 6.4% y-o-y in December. The latest figures are the highest since July 2007. We are forecasting average inflation for 2008 at 5.8%, with an end year target of 5.1%. An appreciating shilling - we project the shilling to hit TZS1,110.00/US$ by end-2008, from TZS1,150.50/US$ at end-2007 - should help temper inflationary pressures.
