Army chief and presidential hopeful Michel Suleiman's threat to resign before his tenure officially expires, out of frustration with the government's inability to agree on a way to install him as president was described by newspaper al-Safir (to which he made the announcement) as a 'highly explosive political bomb'. Talking about the prospect of 'a daily exhaustion of the army and also the exhaustion of the Lebanese who are fed up with politics and politicians', the leader said he would leave the position on August 31.
