Global Food Inflation: SSA Implications

BMI View: Elevated global food prices are likely to affect sub-Saharan Africa more severely than the wider developing world. In general, countries scoring higher in our political risk ratings will have better capacity to respond to food crises, while, on the economic front, higher prices herald higher headline inflation, worsening fiscal pictures and mixed consequences growth and trade balances.
