The ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) won all five parliamentary by-elections held in March, including one seat previously held by the opposition Botswana National Front (BNF). As has become usual, the BNF and the other significant opposition grouping, the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), complained that the BDP exploited its position of power to gain an unfair campaigning advantage. While this is true in part, we believe that the opposition's defeat is mainly the result of the continuing inability of the BNF and BCP to work together. Barring a political tsunami, the BDP, which has ruled uninterrupted since independence, will win
