April 2008 | Ratings UpdateForeign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi recently said that Yemen could soon accede into the some of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) agencies, a move that would be a significant step for the country's hope of joining the GCC by 2015. According to al-Qirbi, Yemen is in talks to join the GCC Measures Authority and the Gulf Organisation for Industrial Cooperation, with the GCC tentatively supporting Yemen's proposed accession. We think full accession would require a notable economic transformation that is, currently, unattainable. Nonetheless the recent news bodes well for regional relations and Yemen scores a good eight out of ten
