Constitutional Amendment On The Cards?

The Turkish government has stated that it may consider amending the constitution to prevent the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) from being banned in the event the constitutional court rules against the party in an ongoing lawsuit over its alleged 'anti-secular' activities. While such a move would be positive for the long-term political stability of the country, helping to prevent future mainstream parties from being targeted by the judiciary, pushing through a constitutional amendment at this time could prove to be politically controversial. Indeed, opposition parties have warned Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, that he should only pursue this option
