Consumer price inflation accelerated to 6.6% y-o-y nationally in April 2008, up from 5.0% at the end of 2007. We are forecasting a year-end rate of 5.0% in 2008, although food prices pose further upside risk. According to official data, the cost of food rose by 10.7% y-o-y nationally in April and by 12.4% in the capital Algiers, compared with end-07 rates of 7.9% y-o-y and 7.2% y-o-y respectively.
