June 2008 | Ratings UpdateNegotiations between Libya and the US to reach a final compensation deal for the victims of Libyan-sponsored terrorist attacks continue, signalling a strong will on both sides to finally normalise diplomatic relations. The two sides met in London in late May, following a meeting there in March, when Libya agreed to pay US$10bn to the families of each of the victims of the Lockerbie bombing. Tripoli's renewed efforts to reach a settlement appear to have been motivated by new US legislation, which allows the freezing of foreign government assets in order to pay damages to terrorism victims.
