BMI View: On May 30, the IMF released a working paper on Tanzania's exchange rate, arguing both that Tanzania's current real effective exchange rate (REER) is marginally undervalued from the equilibrium REER, and that the equilibrium REER should see appreciation over the next few years. This is in line with our own view, which sees the currency appreciating to TZS1,110/US$ by end-08 and TZS1,040/US$ by end-09.
