Bemba Arrested By ICC
June 2008 | Ratings UpdateJean-Pierre Bemba, DRC senator and former vice-president, presidential contender and rebel leader, was arrested in Belgium by the International Criminal Court on May 25 on charges that he instigated a campaign of rape in the Central African Republic. Bemba, who denies the charges, is the leader of the primary opposition Congo Liberation Movement (CLM) party, but has been out of the country for over a year now, after his militia clashed with the President Joseph Kabila's presidential guard.
