June 2008 | Macroeconomic ForecastsRecent months has seen some extraordinary moves in the Iranian Rial, as the government looked to have intervened to halt the unit's long-held depreciatory crawl, and instead support short-term appreciation. Indeed the rial surged by 4.1% between January and May this year, at one point to trade at IRR8,940/US$, before depreciating again back towards the IRR9,280/US$ level.
