New sources of domestic financing for local companies are a perquisite for reducing unemployment and over-reliance on the state for jobs. The big natural resource projects have little trouble funding themselves, but smaller ventures find it difficult to access working or investment capital. Although still small with an average daily turnover of BWP3.4mn in 2007, the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) registered a 42.9% y-o-y increase in the total volume of shares traded last year.
